Learner
Student-centered learning where readiness, pace, and progress are individualized. TEAL+ develops emotional intelligence, empathy, social/emotional wellbeing, and equity alongside academic growth.
Technology-Enabled Active Learning Plus — the foundation every MCRI student is built on.
What is TEAL+?
TEAL+ stands for Technology-Enabled Active Learning Plus. The "Plus" represents personal learning through STEAM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
The model was born out of a simple observation: in many communities, learners never get the opportunity to use technology to develop themselves as individuals. TEAL+ closes that gap by pairing transformational technology with pedagogy that puts learners — not lectures — at the center of the classroom.
When students work collaboratively at stations on real-world problems, the teacher shifts from lecturer to coach, mentor, and guide. That shift is the heart of TEAL+.
Six areas of focus
TEAL+ isn't a curriculum. It's an integrated set of practices that move a classroom toward student-centered learning.
Student-centered learning where readiness, pace, and progress are individualized. TEAL+ develops emotional intelligence, empathy, social/emotional wellbeing, and equity alongside academic growth.
Flexible stations replace rows of desks. Wireless displays, untethered teachers, and free-flow classroom layouts support collaboration and spontaneous sharing.
Purposeful app and activity selection: physical-to-digital connection, adaptive difficulty and accessibility, self-paced progress, in-app prompts and feedback — and offline functionality so learning isn't gated by bandwidth.
The teacher becomes coach, mentor, and guide. Four techniques anchor the practice: proximity, wait time, guided discovery, and purposeful questioning.
The 6Cs — Critical thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, Communication, Citizenship (including digital), and Community — combined in authentic learning rather than taught in isolation.
Formative over summative. Portfolios, projects, demonstrations, and personal reflections replace standardized exams. Rooted in established frameworks: SAMR, TPaCK, and LoTi.
